Dr. Hiroji Noguchi ( 野口広治 )
Dr. Hiroji Noguchi passed October 4, 2019 at his residence. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 8 at 2 pm with visitation one hour prior to service at Annunciation Catholic Church. Burial will be at a later date.
Dr. Noguchi was born April 10, 1958 in Chiba, Japan to the late Hiroshi and Tsuya Takayama Noguchi.
Dr. Noguchi came to the United States at age 20 as an exchange student from Japan to attend Creighton University. He earned both Bachelor and Master of Science degree in nuclear physics in 3 years-time. Then, breaking family tradition, he decided to attend medical school. After earning his medical degree at Creighton, he moved to California where he started a residency in general surgery and a clinical and research fellowship in liver transplantation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He then completed a second residency in general surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center and a transplant fellowship at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. He then completed a preceptorship at Providence Seattle Medical Center in vascular surgery.
While at Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Noguchi met his wife, Vickie, a transplantation nurse. They married in 1993 and were married for 26 years.
He joined the surgical and transplantation practice of Surgical Associates, Inc. and Queens Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1998. He also worked at Castle Medical Center in Kailua where he served as Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery and Medical Director of Windward Outpatient Surgery Center. After moving to Mississippi in 2016, he was employed by North Mississippi Medical Center- West Point as a general surgeon.
He was a member of several professional organizations; Fellows of American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, American Society of Transplant Surgeons, Physics Honor Society (Sigma Pi Sigma), and others.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife and children, Matthew, Maya, and Kenji, his German Shepherd dogs, Angel and Dak, and his mother in law, Elaine Simon.
Dr. Noguchi was best known for his bubbly personality, bright smile, incredible bedside manner, and wonderful sense of humor. His work ethic and compassion for his patients and fellow workers was unsurpassed. He was a talented surgeon and enjoyed helping others. He could never say no to anyone in need. He loved all animals, nature, the ocean, martial arts, and his Japanese heritage.
