On Thursday, October 29th, 2020, Dorothy (Dot) Ray passed away at her home surrounded by family at the age of 87.

Dorothy was born in Macon, Mississippi, to Maggie and Bennie Gilmore. She settled in Columbus in 1941.

On August 11, 1950, she married her sweetheart, Lewis Ray. Together they had a daughter, Dottie, and two sons, Bennie, and Davis.

Dorothy enjoyed gardening and cooking. She loved traveling, decorating, and spending time with family.  She is remembered most for her love and devotion to her family and for her strength and courage.

She is preceded in death by her son, Bennie, her father, Bennie Gilmore, her mother, Maggie Gilmore, her sisters, Phyllis Martel, Jesta Kade Billingsley, and her brothers, L.B. Gilmore and Lloyd Gilmore,

Of her immediate family, she is survived by her sisters Polly Owens and Margaret Robinson and was blessed by the strength and they provided her all her life.

She is also survived by her daughter and her husband, Dottie and Hubert Hord of West Point, her daughter-in-law, Barbara Ray of Columbus, and her son and his partner, Davis Ray and Andy Seabolt of Atlanta, Georgia.  She is also survived by her granddaughter and her family, Brittany Weathers, her great-grand-daughter Kinsley Weathers, and by her grandson Benjamin Ray.

Family and friends are invited to her home to gather for a private memorial on Saturday, November 7th, 2020, at 10am.

The family requests no flowers, but encourages donations to any Alzheimer’s or Cancer Foundations or Charities.
