Dorothy Ward Smith McMullan Langford died Thursday, May 5, 2022.
One of three daughters, “Dot,” was born on July 12, 1927, in Columbus, Mississippi to Nannie Kate Ward Smith & Herbert Atkins Smith.
She graduated from S. D. Lee High School in 1944 and would go on to attend Mississippi College for Women where she was a member of the Rogue Social Club.
Dot married Thomas Eugene McMullan, Jr. in 1946, and they made their home in Florida & South Carolina before returning to West Point, Mississippi where she and her husband managed the Belk Hudson store. In 1972, the couple moved back to Columbus and Dot worked as a secretary at Heritage Academy for many years.
She was an active volunteer in the Columbus community serving as a member of Cherokee Garden Club, a life member of Junior Auxiliary, and a member of Bernard Romans Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Dot participated in the Lowndes County Antiquities Society, was a proud member of the Emmaus community and volunteered as a Pink Lady with the Baptist Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a life-long member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy McMullan Wyckoff (Bill); her sister, Nancy Smith Kennedy; her grandchildren: Smith McMullan Wyckoff, Allen Gelder Wyckoff and Nicholas Ward Wyckoff; her great-grandchildren: Alexander Smith Wyckoff and Claire Abigail Wyckoff; and great nephew Thomas Kennedy Fitzner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Thomas Eugene McMullan, Jr., her son Thomas Eugene McMullan III, her second husband Jack Langford, Sr., and her sister Eleanor Smith Slaughter.
A graveside service was held Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Cemetery with Deacon Pam Rhea officiating.
