Doris Ann Bell McGlynn
On Monday, June22, 2020, Doris Ann Bell McGlynn, loving wife and mother passed away surrounded by her children and family at age 90. Visitation will be held at the 716 2nd Ave North Chapel of Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 with a celebration of her life beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow immediately at Beersheba Cumberland Church in New Hope with Rev. Timothy Lee officiating.
Doris was born on August 10, 1929 in Columbus, MS to the late Durward Belmont Bell Sr. and Rosa Estelle Beaty Bell. All five of her brothers, Clarence Wendell Bell, Durward Belmont Bell Jr. (D.B.), Douglas Carroll Bell, Harold Thomas Bell, and William Leon Bell preceded her in death. Doris’ father passed away at a very young age during the depression era so she voluntarily quit school to help her mom raise her brother’s while her mother worked. She was a wonderful homemaker all her life.
At the age of 17 she met the love of her life, Dr. Perry W. McGlynn, who was stationed at Columbus Air Force Base and they married March 6, 1947. They had two children, Kathryn & John. Perry died at only sixty and there wasn’t a day she did not miss him.
Doris’ love for cooking as well as her artistry with flowers only enhanced her ability to make her home a place of comfort. Being married to a career serviceman allowed her to visit and experience other cultures which she thoroughly enjoyed. Survivors include her children, Kathryn McGlynn Hill (Oran) and John McGlynn (Martha). She had four grandchildren, Kahley Hill, Danielle Hill, Erin Thompson (Ryan) and Kelly McGlynn as well as four great grandchildren, Justin Glover, Emily Barksdale, Kalen Reyes and Elena Reyes. She had a very special companion and caregiver, Bobbie Henderson who not only cared for her but loved her through many painful days. We will forever be grateful for the excellent care she was given. She had many nieces and nephews and loved them all. She was known for her infectious smile and quick wit. Momma, you will remain in our hearts always.
Pallbearers will include: Bill Dunham, Wendell Wiggins, Justin Glover, Haley Gallaspy, Emily Barksdale and Robert Perkins.
