DORIS BEATTY EAVES

Doris Beatty Eaves of Columbus, MS left her earthly home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 27 th after a lengthy battle with Multiple Myeloma. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Beatty and Leona Beatty, and her husband, Phillip Ray Eaves. She is survived by her son Philip Scott Eaves, (Heidi Eaves) and her granddaughters, Bailey Jane Eaves and Addison Paige Eaves, who were the light of her life.

Born near Mobile, AL, her family moved to Columbus, MS at an early age. She attended Franklin Academy and later transferred to Stokes Beard School, Columbus, MS. She graduated from Stephen D. Lee High School and upon graduation entered the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She graduated with honors attaining a degree in Business Administration. She also attended Court Reporting School in Beaux Bridge, Louisiana.

Doris entered the work force with the United States Department of Justice/United States Attorney’s office for the Northern District of Mississippi, after which she transitioned to the United States Defense Department/Office of the Staff Judge Advocate. The remaining years of her career were spent in private ownership of Court Reporting Associates, as a court reporter, a part-time videographer, as well as a freelance reporter for the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors.

Doris loved spending time with her family and friends and attended First Baptist Church where she enjoyed fellowship with her Sunday school class. She was active in her community as an ambassador of the Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce for many years and served on the Military Affairs Committee. She was a member of the Court Reporters Association, the Lowndes County Republican Women and for several years, during the yearly Spring Columbus Pilgrimage, she served as a hostess for Shadowlawn and White Arches. She was also a member of the Columbus Exchange Club and Town and Country Garden Club. Her favorite pastime was attending the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football games, which included six Alabama National Championship games, during which time she was a proud member of the Alabama Scholarship Club. Doris also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Ireland, Germany, and Scotland.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home in Columbus, MS. Celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 30 th at 11:00 AM at the 903 College Street location of Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory.  Dr. Shawn Parker, Mississippi Baptist Executive Director, will be officiating the service with Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home Directing.  Following the Service, interment will be held at Eastview Baptist Cemetery officiated by Pastor, Dewayne Eaves of Meridian, MS.

Pall Bearers will be Bill Brigham, C. F. Harris, NutieDowdle, Jack Hayes, Jr. Esq, Tim Hudson, Esq, Bill Lott, and Leroy Nickels.

Honorary Pall Bearers will be: Lex Jackson, Dr. Blair McIver and Lester King.
