Delena Richardson Gavin of Columbus, Mississippi

Delena Richardson Gavin, age 80, of Columbus, died Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at St. Dominic Hospital, Jackson, MS. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to  Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, 2 ^nd Avenue North location.  Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Friday, August 7, 2020 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with Dr. Breck Ladd, officiating.

The daughter of the late Carlos Rex and Frances Swanzy Richardson, Mrs. Gavin was born May 11, 1940, in Columbus. She was a graduate of S. D. Lee High School. She was a member of the former Hollis Chapel Baptist Church and attended Fairview Baptist Church. She most enjoyed time spent with her family, including her eight grandchildren and nine great -grandchildren and vacations at the beach. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Edward Gavin  on August 22, 2000. Delena and Tommy were married on July 3, 1958.

Her goal in life was to be a good mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was an overachiever with that goal. She was always there for any need that her family had and then some. She was a great friend and compassionate caregiver to many. Just a beautiful soul, there is a special place in Heaven for her where she now resides.

She is survived by her children Pamela and Ronnie McGee of Brandon and  Dena and Larry Bradford and Craig Gavin, of Columbus,  a brother -in-law and sister -in-law Bill and Tammy Gavin of Columbus and  a sister Linda Richardson Finch of Booneville, MS. She is also survived by her grandchildren Gavin Paul McGee (Brittany), Grant Allen McGee, Brittany Nicole Beard (Billy), Clinton Blake Bradford (Kaylee), Brooke Delena Bradford, Harley Tennant (Derek), Thomas Aaron Gavin and Camie Parker Austin (Rhett) and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gavin McGee, Grant McGee, Billy Beard, Blake Bradford, Aaron Gavin and Cole Bush.
