DEAN YOUNG – Edna Dean Logan Young, age 89, of Steens, MS, passed away October 22, 2019, at her residence. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 24, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Memorial Gunter Peel Chapel College St. location with Allen Jones officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Woodlawn Church of Christ Cemetery of Steens, MS. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
Mrs. Young was born December 11, 1929, in Fayette, AL, to the late Willis B. and Dona Hall Logan. She was a graduate of Caledonia High School. At age 5, she started singing with her father’s quartet. At age 11, she started singing on WCBI Radio with the Lowndes County Quartet until age 20 when she married her husband, the late Murl T. Young, Sr. Mrs. Young worked for American Bosch, Young’s Twin Oak Grocery, E. L. Robinson & Sons Grocery, and retired from Gunter & Peel Funeral Home as an insurance and prearrangement counselor. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John David Young, brothers, Albert Logan, Richard Logan, and Jimmy Logan, sister, Merlene Yarbrough, brothers in law, Raymond Higdon and Billy Yarbrough, and sister in law, Virginia Logan.
Survivors include her children, Tommy Young, Frankie Young and wife Kathy, Gloria Taylor and husband Donald, and Louis Denney and wife Theresa, brothers, Elbert Logan, Wayne Logan and wife Joyce, and Willis Logan and wife Tonyaa, sisters, Bobbie Winters and husband Arthur, and Beverly Logan Higdon, sister-in-law, Rae Logan, grandchildren, Kimberly McNorton and husband Patrick, Murl T. Young, III, and wife Angela, Dewayne Young and wife Robyn, Derrick Young and wife Courtney, Lora Taylor Anderson and husband Shawn, and David Allen Taylor and Brandy Murphy, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Dewayne Young, Murl Young, David Taylor, Stephen Young, Steve Yarbrough, Ronnie Jones, Chandler Young, and Shawn Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Woodlawn Church of Christ, patrons and the Footloose Band of The Junction, staff of Legacy Hospice, employees of Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, Jamey Denney, Tim Hudson, and Dr. Harold Roy Thomas, Jr.
