David Allen Williams

David Allen Williams died at his home in Columbus, MS, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

A memorial service will be held at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home and Crematory on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Darrell Powell of East Columbus Church of Christ officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

David Allen was born on March 26, 1943, in Union City, TN, to David Isaac Williams and Bessie Greene Williams of Newbern, TN. After living in Whitehaven, TN and Clarksdale, MS, the Williams family moved to Columbus in time for David Allen to begin S.D. Lee high school, from which he graduated in 1961.

David Allen attended Vanderbilt University, where he majored in Physics and German and was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He went on to earn a doctoral degree in Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee. David returned to Columbus where he worked as a pharmacist at Fairlane Drugs and Holly Hills Drugs. He also worked for many years at City Drugs in Macon, MS, as well as helping out in other pharmacies around the Golden Triangle. He practiced as a pharmacist for more than 50 years, bringing smiles and healing to many.

In addition to helping many people throughout the region as a pharmacist, he also helped bring joy through his true love, sports photography. DA was a freelance photographer for UPI and AP and spend countless hours shooting for the Commercial Dispatch each week. His favorite shots were of SEC football, basketball, and baseball and his beloved Talladega. Along with photography, DA loved barbecue, Tabasco sauce, a good laugh, and hanging out with his newspaper guys.

David was a longtime member of the East Columbus Church of Christ.

David was preceded in death by his parents, David and Bessie, and his wife, Janie Faught Williams. He is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie Williams Braeuner (Joe) of Nashville, TN, and Amy Williams Crowley of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, and six grandchildren, Will Braeuner, Hallie Braeuner, McKenna Braeuner, Henry Braeuner, Grace Crowley and Suzanne Crowley.
