David W. Monahan of Columbus, Mississippi

October 2, 1940 - September 3, 2019

David Wayne (Dave) Monahan passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at his residence. A visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 at Columbus Church of Christ.  A funeral service will follow immediately at 3:00.  His friend Don Cole will deliver the eulogy.  Interment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Columbus.

Mr. Monahan was born October 2, 1940 in Grand Meadow, Minnesota to the late Keith and Florence Monahan.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and as a result of his assignment to Columbus Air Force Base met the love of his life, Glenda Collins, who became his wife of 57 years.  He worked for many years in the gravel business.  In retirement, he drove a school bus for Columbus city schools.  A devoted follower of Christ, he was a decades long member of Columbus Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for many years.  He and Glenda were foster parents for numerous kids over the years.  Dave was an avid gun collector and a fan of old Western movies and TV shows.  He was also devoted to Irish music, particularly the music of Daniel O’Donnell.  He loved all his daughters-in-law like they were his own daughters.  And the feeling was mutual.  He was the consummate doting grandfather, and all his grandkids idolized PawPaw.

He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife Glenda from Columbus, sons Kevin (Jackie), Keith (Emily), and Kris (Audrey), all of Columbus, and Kelly (Heather) of Tyler, TX; grandchildren Kristin Monahan, Ethan Monahan, Cole Monahan, Jett Monahan, Koen Monahan, and step-grandchildren A.J. Redman (Sarah Lynn), Mary Redman, and Jude Everson.  He is also survived by his brother Ron (Nance) Monahan of Rochester, MN and sister Barbara Highet of Austin, MN.

Serving as pallbearers will be sons Kevin, Keith, Kris, and Kelly Monahan and grandsons Ethan and Cole Monahan.
