David Lee Elgin

David Lee Elgin, 84, of Caledonia, MS (formerly of Odessa, MO) died Thursday, April 3, 2025 at his residence. He was born on April 2, 1941 in Independence, MO.

David graduated from the Electronics Institute in Kansas City Missouri and was a dedicated journeyman for Missouri Public Service. He also served as an Alderman for the town of Buckner, Missouri for many years and was later elected Mayor from 1978 to 1981. During his time in office, he worked to improve the community and even had a little league baseball field named in his honor.

He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, and was a distinguished member of the Knights of Columbus, achieving the honor of fourth- degree, where he exemplified the values of charity, unity, and fraternity.

He enjoyed traveling, camping, and floating down rivers, creating cherished memories with family and friends. His love for dogs was evident in the way he cared for and nurtured them.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. Elgin and Zona Brower Elgin, sister, Carolyn Potter, and brothers, Charlie Elgin and Bob Elgin.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Elgin of Caledonia, MS, daughters, Cindy Parkes of Blue Springs, MO, Gail Elgin of Warsaw, MO, Chasity Wilson (Aaron) of Leeton, MO, sons Phillip Elgin (Lisa) of Caledonia, MS, and Shannon Scott (Carrie) of Odessa, MO, grandchildren, Garen Parkes (Joey), Chase Elgin (Jessie), Tori Beth Elgin, Elora Doktor, Layne Edmondson (Braxton), Tori Cooper, Peyton Cooper, Maddie Sims, and Tommy Scott, great grandchildren, Mason Parkes and Charlotte Parkes, multiple nieces and nephews, and his long time Kansas City Chiefs buddy, Mike Parkes.

Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 11:00 am at Annunciation Catholic Church with Father Jeffrey Waldrep officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service. A celebration of life service will be held in Odessa, MO at a later date.
