COLEN CARAWAY

Colen Paul Caraway, age 66, of Columbus, MS , passed away March 27, 2020, at his residence. A memorial graveside service will be at Friendship Cemetery with military honors for all family and friends at a later date.  Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory 903 College St. location is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Caraway was born September 5, 1953, in Quitman, MS, to the late Maurice Brazier and Rosa Etta Riley Caraway.  He was a graduate of Meridian Junior College and served in the United States Marines.  Mr. Caraway worked as a deputy sheriff for the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department for a number of years.  He retired after 41 years as an engineer for the Kansas City Southern Railroad working out of Artesia, MS.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Caraway was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Caraway.

Survivors include his wife, Julie Stark Caraway of Columbus, MS, children, Jason Caraway (Roxanne) of Maben, MS, Shawn Caraway (Carla) of Polk City, FL, Karie Miller (Michael) of Lauderdale, MS, Lauren Holley (Charles Schippel) of Columbus, MS, Jonathan Holley of Columbus, MS, Sophia Odom of Knoxville, TN, and Christa Odom (David Beals) of Charleston, SC, brother, Donald Caraway (Glennie) of Dalewood, MS, sisters, Christie Rainer (Larry) of Hickory, MS, and Cindy Dearman (Raymond) of Meridian, MS, and grandchildren, James Caraway, Olivia Caraway, Jade Caraway, Madison Miller, Cleveland Caraway, Matthew Miller, Eva Caraway, Jase Caraway, Summer Beals, Lana Beals, Trinity Beals, Alyssa Beals, Logan Beals, Landry Schippel, and Andrea Schippel.
