CHRIST CASTANIS Christ Steve Castanis, age 92, of Columbus, MS, passed away January 24, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Memorial Gunter Peel Chapel 716 2nd Ave. North. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, January 28, 2022, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Castanis was born October 11, 1929, in Winona, MS, to the late Steve Christ and Paraskivoula Chicouras Castanis. He was a graduate of S. D. Lee High School and Mississippi State University. Mr. Castanis was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Navy and he owned and operated Steve's Cafe for many years. He was a member of the Holy Trinity - St. John the Theologian of Jackson, MS. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Nick Castanis, and sister, Andromache Rowe. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Katina Castanis of Columbus, MS, daughters, Alexandra Hudson and her husband Eddie of Columbus, MS, Voula Stanback and her husband Brad of Columbus, MS, and Maria Quinn of Columbus, MS, grandchildren, Christopher Hudson, Nikki Hudson, Ashley Nettles, Katie Pounders, Charles Stanback, and Brayden Quinn, and 6 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Eddie Hudson, Christopher Hudson, Brad Stanback, Charles Stanback, Dr. John Stanback, and Tyler Bonner. Honorary pallbearers will be all friends of the family.
