Chellye Hoover Frazier

June 12, 1927 — July 12, 2022

Chellye Hoover Frazier, age 95, passed away at her home in Columbus Ms. on July 12, 2022. Visitation will be at 2:00 Sunday, July 17, 222 prior to the service in the Carolyn Room at First United Methodist Church, Columbus, Ms. Services will be at 3:00 in the sanctuary, Sunday July 17, 2022, officiated by Reverend Anne Russell Bradley.  Memorial Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Burial will follow at Oak Limb Cemetery in Crawford, Ms.

She was born on June 12, 1927 in Morton, Mississippi to the late James H. and Roberta Cooper Hoover.  Mrs. Frazier was raised by her aunt and uncle, Edna Cooper Edwards and David A. Edwards.  She graduated from Morton High School, where she was a majorette in the band.  She always fondly remembered the people of Morton and reminisced often about growing up there. She was employed by the U. S. Post Office in Morton until she married Dr. John Thomas Frazier from Crawford, Mississippi in 1949.  They spent sixty-eight years of loving marriage, together.

She retired with Dr. Frazier from his medical practice at the age of 78.  Mrs. Frazier was a member in First United Methodist Church, as well as the Columbus Medical Auxiliary.  She was a member of the Junior Auxiliary of Columbus and the Milady’s Dinner Club.  Mrs. Frazier participated in the Columbus Garden Club as a young wife and mother.  She attended Mississippi State College for Women in 1960-62.  Mrs. Frazier enjoyed travel with her husband, attending medical meetings across the United States and around the world.  She particularly enjoyed decorating and furbishing their antebellum home on Fourth Avenue South. Mrs. Frazier loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with a never-ending love.

Mrs. Frazier was preceded in death by her parents, James and Roberta Hoover, brother Cooper Hoover, sisters Frances Fisackerly and Yvonne Gordon. She is survived by her four children, Day Frazier Anders (Wayne) of Gulf Shores, AL; John Thomas Frazier, Jr. (Lee Jones Hackett) of Columbus, MS; Chellye Frazier Pomeroy (Don) of Salem, SC; and Kirk Frazier (RaDonna) of Hattiesburg, MS.  Her five grandchildren included Weston Frazier Pomeroy (Sarah) of Atlanta, GA; Vanessa Pomeroy Harrison (Lucas) of Greenville, SC; Michael Wayne Anders of Tuscaloosa, AL;    J. T. Frazier III (Abbey) of Birmingham, AL; and Landon Kirk Frazier (Ellen), of Hattiesburg, MS.  Great-grandchildren are Grace Olivia Harrison, Ezra Fox Pomeroy, Hannah Elizabeth Harrison, Aria Grace Pomeroy, Judah Thomas Frazier, and Caleb Daniel Harrison.

Pall bearers are Don Pomeroy, Wayne Anders, Wes Pomeroy, Michael Anders, J.T. Frazier, III, and Landon Frazier. Honorary pall bears include Dr. Michael Duckworth; DeWitt Hicks; Dr. Prentiss M. Gordon; former members of the Stuckenschneider Sunday School class, First United Methodist Church; as well as past and present members of the Prairie Medical Society; Pushmataha Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Baptist Hospice staff; and our many wonderful sitters.  The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to the Crawford Oak Limb Cemetery c/o Peggy Phillips P.O Box 167 Crawford, MS 39743.
