CHARLES HARMOND

Charles Edward Harmond passed away peacefully at home in Hattiesburg on Christmas day 2020 at the age of 77.  Charles was born in Steens, Mississippi, was proud graduate of Lee High School and Mississippi State University where he was a member of the Famous Maroon Band.  After  serving as an officer in the U.S. Army’s XVII Airborne Corps during the Vietnam War, he returned to Lowndes County.

Granddad, to those who loved him most,  was a CPA and partner at T.E. Lott & Co. and later General Manager of the Commercial Dispatch.  He was active in the community as a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church, the Exchange Club, Rotary Club, and Columbu s Air Force Base Community Council.  He was a true servant leader, and his public actions always matched his private beliefs.

More importantly, Granddad loved his family.  He was the father of three sons, grandfather of twelveC, and a friend to all.  His laughter was infectious, his singing of Kingston Trio songs was hilariously bad, and his wisdom will be cherished for generations.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, John and Katherine, and his beloved wife Sherry.  He is survived by his siblings Tom, Mildred, and John  His sons and grandchildren, living all across the world, share his love of travel.  They are Edward (Terry) and their children Wilson, Brianna, Brooke, Thomas, Bryce, and Noah; Bill, (Paula) and their children Austin, Jordan, Alana, and Karsyn; and Josh (Shelly) and their sons Joseph and Elijah.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Gunter Peel Chapel 903 College St. location.  The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Justin Harmond, David Harmond, Clif Swedenburg, Winston Swedenburg, Dwayne Young, and Austin Tollett.
