Charity Walter

Charity Moore Walter, age 75, of Columbus, MS, transitioned November 9, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS with her loved ones by her side.
Ms. Walter was born January 31, 1948, in DeKalb, MS, to the late Walter Moore and Mary Jean Adkins Moore.  She was a graduate of East Kemper High School in Kemper County, MS. She entered into marriage immediately following graduation. She was a factory laborer until she relocated to Columbus, MS in search of a better life. This move ignited a passion for helping others and she began her career as private care giver. Ms. Walter worked as a caregiver up until her death. She actively used her love for Christ as a guide in her profession as a domiciliary healthcare worker and caregiver, sharing her love for God and her faith with everyone she encountered. Ms. Walter was a devoted Mother and Grandmother, loyal Sister, trusted friend, faithful family member, and compassionate caregiver.
Ms. Walter loved her children, and they along with her family and friends will forever delight in her memories. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her loving sons, Michael Dewayne Willis of Yantley, AL; Daniel Willis of Columbus, MS; and Lawrence Willis of Jacksonville, FL; her devoted daughters, Mechelle Walker of Meridian, MS, and Arnedtra “Nette” Mitchell of Columbia, SC; brother, John Moore (Annise) of Chicago, IL; sisters, Ruby Moore Brown of Daleville, MS; Mary Christine Moore Drummond of DeKalb, MS, and Annie Moore Hopson of Porterville, MS. Ms. Walter was privileged to have been loved by a host of beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, bonus sons, bonus daughters, and a multitude of extended family and faithful, longtime friends whom she loved.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Walter was preceded in death by her son, Broderick Willis; daughter, Altovese Willis; brothers, Walter Moore, Jr., Henry Campbell, Tom Moore, and Roosevelt Moore; sisters, Jesse Moore Smith, and Emma Moore Miller.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 2:00 PM with Pastor George Mosley
officiating, Memorial Gunter Peel Chapel. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral at 1:00 PM until the time of the service at Memorial Gunter Peel  Funeral Home. The interment will immediately follow at Union Cemetery with Pastor Barnell Tate officiating.
Pallbearers will be Marty Turner, Tony Hampton, Manuel Alexander, Ishmael Willis, Robert Edwards,
and Deon Brewer.
Ms. Walters would be greatly honored if donations were made in her honor to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX, 75244) to continue the fight in eliminating breast cancer; or to the American Heart Association (P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX, 75284) in the effort to eradicate or reduce deaths caused by heart disease and stroke.
