Cary Carr Campassi passed away on August 13, 2021 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus, MS. He was 63.
There will be a visitation from 10am until 10:45am on Thursday, August 19 at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home and Crematory at 903 College St, Columbus, MS. There will be a graveside service following at 11am at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Jamie Bailey officiating.
Cary was born on July 1, 1958 in Clarksdale, MS to Robert Henry Campassi and June Hudson Campassi. His family moved to Columbus in 1964 where he spent the rest of his life as a resident. Cary was probably best known for the years that he spent working at Winn-Dixie and where he was assistant manager for many years. He also worked several years at Weyerhaeuser in Millport, AL in his last years. Cary was a 1976 graduate of Heritage Academy in Columbus where he excelled on the high school football team and was selected MVP his senior year. In his adult life, he was an avid turkey hunter and crappie fisherman. However, he considered his greatest accomplishment in life, the raising of his only child, Austin Baker Campassi.
Cary is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Campassi and June Campassi and his nephew, Conner Campassi. He is survived by his son, Austin Campassi; brothers, Robin Campassi and Mark Campassi; nephews, Matthew Campassi and Christopher Campassi; nieces Marcela Campassi and Claire Campassi Herndon.
Pallbearers will be Paar Colvin, Mec Colvin, Andy Young, Mike Swedenburg, Tommy Shaw and Mike Butts.
