Bud Morgan

June 8, 1940 — December 6, 2019

On Friday, December 6, 2019, M.D. (Bud) Morgan of Columbus, MS, loving husband and father of five children, passed away at age 79. Bud was known for his love for his family, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

Bud was born on June 8, 1940 in Lincolnton, NC to Dillard and Edna (Ledford) Morgan and graduated from Union High School in Vale, NC. He entered in the United States Air Force in 1959, serving for 22 years and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was marriedDoris Harper Curry for 33 loving years. Together, they raised two children, Michael and Michelle, in addition to three older children, Terry Youngblood, Donna Jean Curry, and Don Curry.

After retiring from the Air Force, he worked at Weyerhaeuser’s Columbus Pulp and Paper Complex, retiring in 2004. He was very involved in local veterans organizations and was a Life Member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4772, The American Legion Post 69, and The Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 997. He was also an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Columbus.

Bud was preceded in death by his father, Dillard, his mother, Edna, his wife, Doris, his son, Don Curry, as well as his two sisters and brother, Frankie Sue Williams, Shirley McSwain, and Steve Morgan. He is survived by his four children, Terry (Tammy) Youngblood, Donna Jean (Ken) Jones, Michael (Kathleen) Morgan, and Michelle (Aaron) Butler, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. For the past two years, Bud was given wonderful care by Jackie Ali.

Visiting hours will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11 th , 2019 at the Wesley United Methodist Church with funeral service following at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Honorary pallbearers are John Prater, Phillip Doty, Jerry Gilliam, Becky Watson, Danny Prater, Tim Fields, Marty Rector, Sammie Hinton, and Billy Shaw.
