BOB SANDERS

John W. “Bob” Sanders, age 98, of Steens, MS, passed away August 2, 2020, at his residence.  Graveside services will be Wednesday, August 5,2020, at 5:00 PM at Lone Oak Church of Christ Cemetery with military honors and Tim Gentle and Pete Bowen officiating.  Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory 903 College St. location is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sanders was born August 11, 1921, in Steens, MS, to the late Joel Earnest and Rubye Irene Vaughn Sanders.  He was a veteran of WWII where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge under General Patton serving in the United States Army as a tank operator.  Mr. Sanders was a retired fireman from the Columbus Fire Department and the Columbus Air Force Base.  He was a member of the Lone Oak Church of Christ and in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Floy Inez Sanders, daughter, Brenda Sanders Dunn, brothers, Adrian Sanders and Alston Sanders, and sister, Louise Sanders Logan.

Survivors include his daughter, Bobbie Jo Taylor and her husband Eddie of Steens, MS, sister, Floy P. York of Fayetteville, AR, grandchildren, Christy Holcombe and her husband Marty of West Point, MS, Corey Taylor and his wife Lee of Spanish Fort, AL, and Jennifer Honeycutt and her husband Daniel of Salsbury, NC, great grandchildren, Ashley H. Sykes and her husband Kris, Chelsea H. Allen and her husband Trey, Aubrey Taylor Honeycutt, and Gabriel D. Honeycutt, and great great granddaughter, Kylie Jo Sykes.

Pallbearers will be Steve Yarborough, Brent Mitchell, Keith Mitchell, Corey Taylor, Trey Allen, Kris Sykes, Donnie Yarborough, and Marty Holcombe.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lone Oak Church of Christ, members of the Steens Church of Christ, Columbus Fire Department, Josephine Spain, long time caregiver, and Robert Earl Evans.
