Bob L. Proffitt

BOB PROFFITT – Robert Lee “Bob” Proffitt, Jr., age 83, of Columbus, MS, passed away March 8, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be Sunday, March 15, 2020, at 3:00 PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Jason Shelby officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory 716 2nd Ave. North location is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Proffitt was born November 16, 1936, in Columbus, MS, to the late Robert Lee and Elizabeth McCrary Proffitt, Sr. He was a graduate of Lee High School and Mississippi State where he received his degree in mechanical engineering. Mr. Proffitt worked for Lockheed Martin Corporation for a number of years then became Assistant Administrator at Columbus Lowndes General Hospital. He was longtime owner and operator of Proffitt’s Porch Restaurant. Mr. Proffitt was a member of the Columbus Rotary Club and member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Banks Proffitt.
Survivors include his son, Campbell Proffitt and his wife Teresa of Columbus, MS, daughter, Lee Allison Proffitt of Springhill, TN, grandchildren, Kathyrn Sinclaire Snyder, Campbell McKellar Proffitt, Margaret Banks “Maggie” Proffitt, and James Reuben Proffitt, and step grandchildren, Brittany Lynn Deschaine and Preston Paul Long.
