Billy L. (Bill) McBryde, (90), of Columbus passed away May 21, 2024 at his residence.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 29, 2024, 11:00 to 1:00 at East End Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 1:00pm at East End Baptist Church with Josiah Beougher and Luke Lawson officiating.  A private family graveside service will immediately follow with Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.

Mr. McBryde was born on December 1, 1933 in Union County, Mississippi, to the late Willie Richard McBryde and Claudia Rudell Dunlap McBryde. He attended school in Union County and graduated from Myrtle High School, in Myrtle, Mississippi, as Valedictorian of his class.

Mr. McBryde is survived by his siblings: Carolyn Shelton, Myrtle, MS, Roger (Shirley) McBryde, New Albany, MS, and Larry (Jeri) McBryde, Bartlett, TN. Also by his children: daughters, Tami H. McBryde and Evelyn Claire McBryde of Columbus, MS and sons, William Lindy (Sharon) McBryde of Columbus, MS and Greg (Kris) McBryde of Fairhope, Alabama. Grandsons: Walker and Bryant McBryde of Columbus, MS and by longtime friend and companion Anniette Tate.

After serving two years of military service, he moved to Columbus in May of 1957 and worked in the insurance business and attended MS State University.  In 1960, he started McBryde, Inc., which he served as president from that time to present as a Residential Single and Multifamily Home Builder. He served as Senior Life Director of National Home Builder Assoc.: President of Home Builders Assoc of MS: President of GT Home Builders Assoc. and President of Columbus Board of Realtors.  For his dedicated service to the industry, he was initiated into the Home Builders Assoc. Hall of Fame. In 1965, he started Cash and Carry Building Supply, Inc., where he has served as President continually.

He was actively involved in community affairs having served as Chairman of Chamber of Commerce, now LINK. He also served as Chairman of Board of

Directors of GT Medical Center, Chairman of GT Medical Foundation, past

President of Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau, past President of Columbus Civitan Club, and also served on the CLEDA Board of Directors.

Bill was a member of East End Baptist Church since 1959, having served as Teacher/Director of the Junior Department for 25 years and served as Chairman of Long Range Planning Committee.

He was an avid MS State Sports Fan and served as President of the Bulldog Club. His hobbies included Flying, traveling and snow skiing. He was a general aviation pilot with instrument and multi-engine rating. He enjoyed traveling having visited; Alaska, Bermuda, Bahamas, Canada, Italy, Switzerland and Mexico.  He enjoyed snow skiing and visited most of the major ski resorts in Colorado, including Aspen and Vail as well as those in the Italian and Swiss Alps.

Pallbearers will be: Ray Gore, Tommy Johnson, Richard Garner, Roger McBryde and Larry McBryde.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the past and present members of Cash and Carry Building Supply.
