Betty Jo Backstrom

Betty Jo Backstrom, 93, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Trinity Health Care Center. Services will be held Wednesday January 15, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the 716 2 ^nd Ave N Chapel of Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home with Rev. John Richards and Rev. Bob Wilber officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2020 from 5 until 7 at the 2 ^nd Ave N location.

Betty Jo was born in Brunswick, TN to Lois Snowden and Durrell Shelton. She attended MSCW in Columbus where she met and married Bill Backstrom. Betty Jo had a thirty-two year teaching career in the Columbus public school system. After retiring from her teaching career, Betty Jo and Bill built and ran a successful bed and breakfast in Columbus. Betty Jo was a long time faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Iota, the Rose Garden Club, the Wednesday Bridge Club and the Les Amies Study Group.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Bill. She is survived by her three sons; Forrest (Sharon Hatch), Charles (Cheryl Measells), and Paul (Leslie Harrison), six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and sister-in-laws.

The family would also like to mention and thank Betty Jo's companion and care giver, Laura Power of New Hope for all of the love and care Laura gave to Betty Jo.

Betty Jo will be missed by all those who knew her.
