Bessie Smith Montgomery

Bessie Smith Montgomery, 85, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Garden Hill Assisted Living in Columbus, MS. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church in Starkville. Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 1:45 at the church. Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Bessie was born on February 28, 1938 in Inverness, MS to the late Hiram Whetstone Smith and Wilma Tolar Smith. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church in Starkville, MS and retired from the MS State Vet School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Pressly Montgomery, Jr. and daughter, Melanie Montgomery MacGown.
She is survived by her daughter, Callie Montgomery Ferrell (Daniel); three grandchildren, Montgomery Blake MacGown, Kayla Elizabeth MacGown, and Preston Gillespie Montgomery; and two great grandchildren, Reece MacGown and Beau MacGown.
