BERTHA HOLLIS

Bertha Lee Smalley Beaty Hollis, age 89, of Columbus, MS, passed away July 2, 2020, at Trinity Healthcare.  Graveside services will be Friday, July 3, 2020, at 3:00 PM at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Al Hamm officiating.  Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory 903 College St. location is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hollis was born December 26, 1930, in Columbus, MS, to the late Thomas and Myrtle Lena Brown Smalley.  She was a former member of Canann Baptist Church and was a current member of Victory Freewill Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Homer Beaty, Sr., and L. J. Hollis, brothers, Ed Smalley and Bud Smalley, and sisters, Doris Foreman, Effie Mae Hunter, and Helen Aldridge.

Survivors include her sons, Homer Beaty, Jr. and his wife Joanne of Columbus, MS, and Virgil Beaty and his wife Penny of Gulf Shores, AL, daughter, Peggy Strauss of Columbus, MS, sister, Bessie Howard of Columbus, MS, grandchildren, Shilo Goodman and her husband Dean, Erika Allison and her husband Sam, Brandi Shober and her husband Sam, T. K. Wood and his wife Haley, Lauren King and her husband Thomas, and Tyler Strauss, and 9 great grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. James Woodard and the nurses and staff of Trinity Healthcare.
