Ava Jordan

February 6, 1954 — January 26, 2024

Ave Marie Harrison Jordan was born February 6, 1954, at the Tippah County Hospital in Ripley, Mississippi to Bobby R. Harrison and Rose Marie Dickerson Harrison Roberts.  She is a 1972 graduate of Ripley High School, attended Northeast Junior College where she played French Horn in the Tiger Marching Band, enrolled at Blue Mountain College where she was a member of the Euzelian Society and transferred to University of Southern Mississippi where she graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts.

While in Hattiesburg, Ava worked at the Covington County Welfare Department, currently the Department of Human Services.  In 1979, she transferred to the Lowndes County Welfare Department.  Shortly thereafter, she transferred to the Division of Medicaid in Columbus, Mississippi.  Due to a disability, she retired in 2002.  Prior to her disability Ava enjoyed creating visual art using acrylics on canvas.  She also enjoyed studying mystical situations and other intellectually stimulating material.

Ava is survived by her three children: Trey Jordan, Megan Hoglund both of Columbus, MS and Gage Jordan (Lauren Roberson) of Columbus, Ohio; her grandchildren, Katie and Tristan Hoglund of Louisiana; her Step Father, the Honorable James L. Roberts, Jr. of Pontotoc; her siblings Pat Harrison(Donna), Collierville, TN, Kim Harrison, Mathiston, MS; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Memorial Gunter Peel Chapel in Columbus, MS on February 16, 2024, at 2 p.m.
