Annie Ruth Hiett

Annie Ruth Sims Hiett, 91, died Friday, August 16, 2019 at her daughter's residence in Steens, MS.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, 2nd Ave. North location, Services will be 2:00 PM  Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, 2nd Ave. North location, with Rev. Jack Taylor officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Interment will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

One of seven children of the late Albert and Doxie Harrell Sims, Mrs. Hiett was born August 5, 1928 in Oneonta, AL. Before her children were born , she worked as a seamstress in a clothing manufacturing plant. She and her husband built three homes and she was completely capable of changing the tires, the oil and the brakepads in her car, and she taught her daughters how to do the same.   She attended Souls Harbor Church in Columbus many years ago. In addition to her parents , she was predeceased by her five brothers and two sisters-in-law Clifford (Ramona), Albert, Jr., Herschel, George and Fred Sims (Virginia) and  one sister and brother-in-law  Ella Nelson( Pete) , two granddaughters and a grandson-in-law Karen Taylor Maxey(Shawn) and Maria Ann Taylor, a great-granddaughter Ally Elizabeth Maxey and her husband Clifford Wade Hiett, who died in 1995.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Ila K. and Jack Taylor and Holly and Allen Stephens, her son Roger Hiett, and  three sisters-in-law Hester Sims, Mary Sims and Kathleen Sims.  She is also survived by three grandchildren Halley Stephens Winter, Benjamin Stephens and Stacey Stephens and five great-grandchildren Angel Ferguson, Kyle and Jay Maxey, and Kaylee and River Winter.

Pallbearers will be Allen Stephens, Johnny Taylor, JT Taylor, Benjamin Stephens, Roger Hiett and Kyle and Jay Maxey.
