ALBERT OLIN CUMMINGS

Albert Olin Cummings, 95, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Sansing Country Home in Carrollton, Alabama. His celebration of life services will be held at East End Baptist Church on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 3:00 pm. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home and Crematory located at 903 College Street on Friday, May 17, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A one hour viewing will take place at East End Baptist Church prior to his celebration.

Al was born on March 22, 1924 to the late Benjamin Franklin and Lillie Mae Speed Cummings. He was a member of East End Baptist Church and served faithfully for 65 years. He held only two jobs his entire work life. The first job he held was a driver for Trailways Bus for 10 years. His next and final job was driving with Campbell 66 Express. (He was a rambling man!) Al was a WWII Veteran who served his country in the U.S. Army from 1943 -1946.  He was honorably discharged and awarded a Purple Heart as well as other medals. He joined VFW Post 4272 1958 and served as the Post Commander, District Commander, State Commander, and was a member of the 19 th National Council LA-MS.

Al was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Helen Elizabeth Arnold Cummings. Also preceding him in death were his brothers: James, Ben, and Marlin Cummings and one sister, Norma Cummings. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Barnhill of Roswell, GA; son, Tim Cummings and wife Carla of Starkville, MS; five grandchildren: Meredith Barnhill, Dane Holcomb (Boone), Gray Barnhill, Jenny Reynolds, and Chris Cummings (Kelsey); four great-grandchildren: Hayes Holcomb, Bo Holcomb, Henry Holcomb, and Jace Evans; brothers: Richard, Herman, Jerry, and Ronnie and sisters: Margaret, Mary Joyce, and Linda.

Memorials may be made to East End Baptist Church Building Fund 380 Hwy 50 West Columbus, MS 39705.  Memorials can also be made to Golden Triangle Outdoors – Challenger Ball League 224 State Line Road Columbus, MS 39702.
