Grover J. " Son" Carr, 76, of Columbus, MS died Monday, January 19, 2009 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home Thursday, January 22, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Services will be Friday, January 23, 2009 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Ron McDougald, and Rev. Ricky Cash, officiating. Rev. David Strain will assist with prayers at the graveside service with burial to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Carr was born Friday, December 9, 1932, in Columbus, MS to the late Robert Grover and Stella Martin Carr. He was employed with Pennington's Big Star for 34 years, retiring as Assistant Manager. He was a member of Main Street Presbyterian Church. An avid student of God's word, he was a former Sunday School teacher and active deacon. When he was more able-bodied , Mr. Carr could be found tending his backyard garden. More recently, after moving to Trinity Retirement Center, he tried his hand at container gardening and offered his services to Trinity on the weekend. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Ray, Ralph and R.G. Carr and sisters Elsie Delk, Bobbie Barham and Catherine Corrado. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary Cash Carr, daughters Ramona Faber (Jim) of Keller, Texas and Claire Jolly (Jeff) of Tyler, Texas and his three grandchildren Brandon and Kelsey Faber and Paxton Jolly. Pallbearers wiil be James Smith, Roger Bracknell, Brandon Faber, Paxton Jolly, William "Bubba" Carr and John Coleman. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Shull, Stan Maynard, Bill Mason, Gerald Scallions, Ed Markham, Dr. David Payne, Joel McAdams, Sidney Thompson, Billy Caldwell, Walter Cole, Jimmy Wilder, Dr. Min Kim, Dr. Dan Bennett, and the warm and caring staff in CCU at the University of Ms Medicall Center.
