Dewey Revero Roach

November 22, 1918 — October 30, 2007

Dr. Dewey Revero Roach went to be with his Lord on October 30, 2007. He had resided at Starkville Manor for over a year. Dr. Roach deeply loved the Lord, his family, and all those with whom he came in contact. He shared his strength, compassion , graciousness and wisdom with all he knew. Dr. Roach was born November 22, 1918 in Dandridge,TN to the late Nelson and Dorothea Stallsworth Roach. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Margaret Parker Roach , who died in 1999. They shared in ministry and proclaimed the love of God with an untold number of churches throughout their marriage. Dr. Roach served as Head of the Department of Philosophy and Religion at MSCW for over 20 years. He held a PhD and a Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth , Tx. He also received a degree in French and English from Carson Newman College in TN. He was Associate Dean at Belmont College in Nashville, Tn for many years , and also studied at Edinburgh University in Edinburgh Scotland. He authored many papers and publications on religion and philosophy. He was adored and admired by his students and peers. He very much enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and communing with God in his activities. Dr. Roach is survived by his two daughters, Carole Gaston and son-in-law Dr. Ric Inzunza of Starkville and Washington, D.C. and Debbie Cooper and son-in-law Dr. Robert C. Cooper of Starkville, who all admired their daddy and his faith. He is also survived by two sisters, Veta Fritts, Mountain Home, AR and Rosalee Hinds, Rockwood, Tn; a brother Glenn Roach , Marietta, Ga ; five grandchildren, Kimberly Cason(Rusty), Knoxville, Tn; Mark Gaston, Evansville, In; Ben Cooper, Adam Cooper(Abi), Starkville; Elizabeth Cooper Wagner( Jon), Pittsburgh, Pa; and a step granddaughter, Alissa Inzunza, Starkville, Ms and Washington, D.C., whom he loved and with whom he spent many memorable times. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Mid-Mississippi, 1900 Dunburton St., Suite 1, Jackson, Ms 39216.
