Julia Williams Taylor Columbus Mississippi - Julia Williams Taylor 84 died March 3, 2006 at her residence in Steen Mississippi. Mrs. Taylor was born Janurary 13, 1922 in Janurary to the late Daniel Luther and Mary Emma Bush Williams. She graduated from high school in New Albany and attended Morehead College prior to graduating from Mississippi State College for Women in 1943. After college she taught elementary school in Florida and then during WWII worked in the chemistry lab at the steel mills in Birmingham AL. After the war she ran the service clubs in Hokkaido and Tokyo Japan where she met her husband, Benton Taylor, on the golf course. After her husband died in 1962, she taught school in Columbus and was a school librarian at Barrow and Stokes Beard elementary schools. She received a Masters Degree at Mississippi State in 1986 and then taught and became principal at East Lowndes Academy in Steen MS. Mrs. Taylor was a member of the DAR, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Retired Officer's Wives Club. She attended Piney Grove Methodist Church in Steens. In addition to her parents and her husband Benton she was preceded in death by two sisters Frances Jones and Doris Brown and a brother Alexander "Bam" Williams. Funeral services will be Monday March 6, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Black officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at Memorial Funeral Home. Survivors include Daughters: Juliana Taylor of Mongomery AL, Doris Taylor of St. Paul Minnesota, Son: Dan Taylor of Meridian MS. Grandchild: Taylor Forrest of Mongomery AL, Sister: Fay Richardson of Columbus MS, Brother: Dan Williams of Prentiss MS. many special nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends. Pallbearers will be Will Odom, Curt Younger, Larry Shepherd, Louis Conn, Brooks Pope, John Lancaster. Honorary Pallbearers will be Glenn Richardson, Mike Kumpel, Matthew Kumpel, Jason Kumpel,, Bill Jones, George Brown Jr.,, Winford Skinner, Scott Forrest,, Pat Shackleford, Mark Robertson,, Carl Robertson, J.W. Davidson,, Tom Wright, Curt Brown,, Paul Lockhart, and Jordan Dauber, , . Memorials may be made to Steens Piney Grove Methodist Church Building Fund or to Lowndes County Humane Society.
