Jacqueline F. Harrington

June 7, 1925 — March 23, 2008

Jacqueline Farrell Harrington, 82, died Sunday, March 23, 2008 , as the result of a fall at her home earlier that evening. The daughter of the late Leslie and Esther Pearce Farrell, she attended Meridian Public Schools. She was a graduate of Mississippi State College for Women, where she was noted for special talents in speech, theatre, and was selected Most Stylish. Jackie Married John Harrington, MD, in 1949 and after settling in Columbus in 1956, she was involved with many organizations. She was an active member of the Womens Medical Auxiliary, became one of the original docents of the Stephen D. Lee Home and Florence Hazard Museum . She enjoyed many years with dear friends of the Town and Country Luncheon Club, the Sippin' and Seafood Supper Club and many other social and philanthropic organizations. She and her husband were long time members of the First Baptist Church and the Annunciation Catholic Church. Jackie was predeceased by her brother John R. Farrell of Miami , Florida . She is survived by her husband John; her son Fred (Eileen Fleming) of Coral Gables, FL; daughter Leslie of Birmingham, AL; son John (Tracy Hamlin) of New Orleans, LA; daughter Chris of Columbus; as well as one grandson, Cody Buntain and three granddaughters, Carrie Buntain and Olivia and Alison Harrington. She leaves as well, two sisters, Leslie Threadgill (Bill), Coleta Newton (Don), sister-In-law Claire Bidgood (Charles), and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, March 27, 2008 , at 1:00 p.m. in the atrium at the Annunciation Catholic Church. The funeral mass, celebrated by father Mitch Pacwa, S.J., will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery . Pallbearers will be David Jolly, Jim Campbell, Jr., Bill Brown, Kim Vought, Cody Buntain and Don Newton, Jr.. Honorary Pallbearers will be William J. Threadgill, Don Newton, Charles Bidgood, Jim Campbell, Jim Evans, Ike Franklin, and the members of the Lay Abouts Golf Group. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Barbara Dean/Class of 1947 Scholarship Fund , 1100 College St., Mississippi University for Women -1618, Columbus, Ms, 39701 or the Stephen D. Lee Home , 301 Plantation Dr. , Columbus , Ms, 39705 .
