Rowe Rhett

ROWE RHETT, SR. Clarence Rowe Rhett, Sr., of Cleveland, MS, died Oct. 24 at the age of 88. The fourth of six Rhett brothers who lived in Columbus at one time, Rowe graduated from high school here and attended Mississippi State. He served in the army during World War II and later married Betty Ross Lewis of Columbus. They were married 43 years until her death in 1990. He was a model to his sons and grandchildren of what a husband, father, and Christian gentleman should be and do. Survivors include his three sons: Rowe Jr. and Melinda Rhett of Memphis, Bob and Kay Rhett of Gluckstadt, and Glenn and Gail Rhett of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Surviving family in Columbus include his sisters-in-law Joan (Mrs. Bob) Rhett, Joan (Mrs. Bill) Rhett and family, and Kathryn (Mrs. Munford) Rhett and family. His other sister-in-law, Charlotte (Mrs. Parker) Rhett lives in Biloxi. A graveside service will be held at Friendship Cemetery in Columbus at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, following an 11:00 a.m. memorial service at First Baptist Church in Cleveland.
