John Donald Brady

John "Jack" Donald Brady, 82, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at his home in Columbus, MS, surrounded by his family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at Annunciation Catholic Church in Columbus on Thursday, July 23, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Annunciation Catholic Church on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 2:00 pm with Father Robert Dore officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Jack was born August 29, 1926, to John and Florence Theresa Kanaly Brady in Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated from Lincoln High School and in 1950, received a B.S. degree from the University of Nebraska where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He entered the military in the Navy near the end of World War II and was placed on reserve status when the war ended. In April of 1951, he became a member of the first flight training class, 52 Baker, at the Columbus Air Force Base after the base was reopened. Jack trained in the T-6 Texan, an old World War II trainer. After completing his training at Columbus Air Force Base, he went to Selma, Alabama where he received advanced flight training at Craig Air Force Base flying the P-51Mustang. He completed his flight training at the Boeing plant in Wichita, Kansas where he learned to fly the T-33 jet. After attending gunnery school at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada, he was sent to Korea in the summer of 1952. He flew 85 combat missions in Korea with the 36th Fighter Bomber Squadron before returning home. In 1953, Jack became a flight instructor at the Greenville Air Force Base in Greenville, MS. After leaving the active military in 1955, he flew as a reservist for the National Guard. He co-hosted the College Football Scoreboard for WCBI -TV Station as the 'Ol Pro' which was sponsored by Falstaff Beer. In 1955, he entered the beer distribution business and was currently a partner in Better Brands Distributing Company. Jack was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, served as a volunteer at Baptist Memorial Hospital and previously flew with the Mississippi Civil Air Patrol. His greatest passion was spending time with his family; he also enjoyed playing golf, Nebraska football and spending time at his camphouse. Jack is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sarah Tirey Brady of Columbus; son, John Brady and daughter-in-law Kimberly of Tupelo; daughter, Theresa Brady Goldberg and son-in-law Greg of Jackson; daughter, Beth Brady Teubert and son-in-law John of Huntsville, Alabama; four grandchildren, Barrett Brady, Tirey Brady, Jack Brady and Jackson Teubert; sister, Cecelia Cather of Lincoln, Nebraska; nephew Scott Cather of Lincoln, Nebraska and nieces Carol McKee of Lincoln,Nebraska and Linda Johnson of Ames, Iowa. Pallbearers will be John Brady, Greg Goldberg, John Teubert, Jackson Teubert, Barrett Brady, Tirey Brady and Jack Brady. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Floore, Fred Fuller, Hank Jolly, Elmer Follis, Kenny Smith, Henry Pilkinton III, the members of his luncheon club, the volunteers at Baptist Memorial Hospital and the employees of Better Brands Distributing Company. The family would like to express a special thank you to Father Robert Dore, Dr. Brad Brown, Dr. John Whitecar, to Baptist Memorial Hospice and to the nursing staff at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
