(Her children arise up and call her blessed Proverbs 31:28) On September 23rd, 2006, our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ took the hand of our dear Mother, Carolyn Virginia McGee McKinney, and lead her to the place that He prepared for her and promised her as a child. . She died in the home of her daughter, Carol McKinney Jowers, in Memphis, Tennessee, where she and her sisters, Elizabeth Libba McKinney Beasley and Linda McKinney Blakeney, cared for her in her final days. We will always be grateful to the Lord for this privilege. Carolyn Virginia McGee McKinney was born March l9, 1921 in Memphis, Tennessee. She married Langdon Jeffries McKinney and moved to Columbus, Mississippi in 1950. There they raised four children. If that wasnt enough, they started many ventures together. They were the proprietor of the old Southern Drugstore, which was a staple in those years. (We can taste that limeade Daddy made behind that marble soda counter " what memories!) Later, they owned McKinney Hardware as well as an antique store, and renovated old homes. We can see Mother now hanging from a ladder doing what it took to finish the project. Needless to say, they were a team! She was a lifetime member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church where she was actively involved and an avid contract bridge player. Carolyn McKinney is survived by her children, Linda McKinney Blakeney of Columbus, Carol McKinney Jowers, Elizabeth Libba McKinney Beasley, both of Memphis, and a sister, Annette McGee Hannah of Dallas, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Langdon Jeffries McKinney, her precious son, Langdon Jeffries McKinney, Jr., her mother Nettie Poyner McGee, her father Walter Floyd McGee, and a brother, Walter Floyd McGee. Jr. Now, it is our turn to take that baton of life. Mother poured her life into her children. Thank you, Mother, for your unconditional and sacrificial love. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me " the task of testifying to the gospel of Gods grace. Acts 20:24.
