Irene Pettit Wingo Irene Wingo died Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point after a long struggle with Alzheimers disease. She was 77 years old. Services will be held Sunday, September 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbus with interment in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Family visitation will be held Saturday, September 5, from 4-6 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. Born in Selma, Alabama, on January 2, 1932, Irene lived most of her life in Columbus. She was the daughter of Lillian Hickman and Audie Clark Pettit. She was married for 57 years to the late Tommy Wingo. A devoted wife and mother, Irene stayed home to raise their five children. She pursued many interests during those years, including archery, oil painting, antiques, gardening, family research and histories, and cooking. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served as the director of their Family History Center for many years. She is survived by five children: Jean Kyle of Clinton, MS; Lynn (Kim) Logan of Fancy Gap, VA; Jerry (Cathi) Wingo of Tampa, FL; Randy (Karen) Wingo of Welty, OK; and Sherry (Bob) Honsinger, of West Point; one sister, Alma Reeves, of Fort Huachuca, AZ; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Her husband, Tommy, her sister, Doris Hargis, and two brothers, Eddie and Larry Pettit preceded her in death. Pallbearers will be Scott Honsinger, Greg Wingo, Scott Ramsey, Ron Spell, Jerry Gill and Christopher Logan. Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy West, Bobby Gale, Howard Sharp, B. A. Atkins, Bert Chain and Tom Yeatman.
