On January 18, 2007, Verdell Blakeney took the hand of our Lord and Savior. He died at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, MS where he has lived with his daughter, peggy davis for the past 12 years. Verdell Blakeney was born in Beaver Dam, Ms on July 5th 1915. He married Lucille Wright and moved to Columbus, raised2 children and retired from the Mississippi Valley Gas Company. Verdell is survived by his children, Peggy Blakeney Davis of Gulfport, Ms, and Herbert Dell Blakeney of Columbus, Ms; 1 sister, Jewell Waters of Centeridge, Ms and a brother, John Blakeney of Harrisburg, PA; 6 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Blakeny, 6 brothers, and a grandson. Verdell was a warm, kind, and loving father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. The celebration of Verdell's homecoming wil be held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Columbus, Ms on Monday January 22, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. The family requests that all memorials be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
