Douglas Eugene Jack Walker, age 87, passed away September 21, 2011 in Columbus, MS. The son of the late James Arthur and Dora Mae Kent Walker, Jack was born May 28, 1924 in Meridian, MS. Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manila, AR. He served his country during World War II when he flew over 30 missions as a gunner in the United States Army Air Force while stationed in Seething, England with the 448th Bomb Group. He was retired from the United States Postal Service and was a past master and a 32nd Degree Mason of the Masonic Lodge in Manila. He was also a long-time member of the Cattlemens Association. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, James Walker, Elizabeth Rice, Robert Walker, Martin Walker, Harold Walker, David Walker, Jean Davis and Betty Rouse. Jack is survived by his wife, Betty Walker of Manila, AR, and daughters Junie Matthews (Woody) and Sandy Brown (Charlie), and grandchildren Deena McIntyre, Drew Matthews (Ashley), and Libby Matthews, all of Columbus, MS. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Harmon (John) of Fort Smith, AR, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Manila, AR with Rev. Jerry Pentecost officiating.
