KANDA BLOUNT Mrs. Kanda Claudette Gainer Blount of Noxapater, MS, died at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus, MS, on Sunday, August 26, 2012 surrounded by a circle of family and friends. Mrs. Bount was a retired homemaker and in earlier years was employed at Woody's Market in Noxapater. She had a quick smile, a great sense of humor and a generous nature. She was a loving wife and mother and had a soft spot in her heart for all animals. She was known to those who loved her as Candy and was as sweet and kind as her name. She was born on May 23, 1953, the daughter of the late Osie Haze Meeks Gainer and John Ellis Gainer of Noxapater. She was a graduate of Noxapter High School and attended East Central Community College where she sang in the choir. She was baptized at Noxapater Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 15 years, Dwight Leon Blount, who died in 2004, and brother, Don Ellis Gainer. She is survived by her daughter, Casey Lea Blount, brother, John Lewis Gainer and wife Donna of Columbus, niece Amber Elizabeth Gainer of Columbus, great nephew, Aydon Ellis Gainer, and niece Melissa Dawn Holekamp and husband Greg of Decatur, MS, and great niece, Tawnie Renee Holekamp. Mrs. Blount will be cremated and a graveside service will be held at a later time at Mars Hill Cemetery of Noxapater, MS. Memorial Funeral Home of Columbus will be in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 125 W. Yorkville Rd., Columbus, MS, 39702, to help with funeral expenses, or to a fund for the education of her daughter, Casey Lea Blount, at Cadence Bank, P.O. Box 631, Columbus, MS 39703.
