Eleanor Bernice Russell of Columbus, Ms, formerly of Birmingham, Al, age 82, passed away December 1, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Ms. Graveside services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham on Monday December 4, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be at Elmwood Chapel on Monday, December 4, 2006 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Mrs. Russell was born on August 11, 1924 in Sumpterville, Al to the late William Varner and Lillie Belle Gibson Aiken. She was a member of Hunter Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, a devoted mother, wife, and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ersie Lonnie Russell and one grandson Lonnie Russell. Survivors include, daughter, Jane Cain (Larry) of Harpersville, Al; son, Bill Russell of Columbus, MS; brothers Sam Aiken of Monroeville, Al and Jim Aiken of Birmingham, Al; grandchildren, Jennifer Talley (John), Julia Brasher (Andrew), and Lane Russell (Louisa).
