Letha Mae Holcomb Spainhour, 89, died March 21, 2013, at Trinity Healthcare, Columbus, MS. Services are at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ed Knox officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Columbus. Visitation will begin at noon at the funeral home. Mrs. Spainhour was born in Evansville, Indiana, on January 28, 1924, to the late Pete and Gladys Holcomb. A retired nurse, she worked for a number of years with the late Dr. Henry Holleman of Columbus. She was married to the late Richard Ellis Pete Spainhour. They had been residents of Columbus since 1957 when he was assigned to the Columbus Air Force Base. A long time member of Antioch Baptist Church in Columbus, she served as a preschool Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years. She was a former member of the Columbus Pilot Club. Her hobbies included house and garden flowers, crocheting, and working puzzles. Survivors included five children: Larry (MajBritt) of Enkoping, Sweden; Dickey (Helen) of Atlanta, GA; Doris Ann Harris (Conner) of King, NC; Janet Woodrum of Columbia, IL; and Pat (Lynn) of Memphis, TN; 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Richard Spainhour, Jon Spainhour, Chris Werner, Matthew Spainhour, Eugene Maxwell and Rodney Finch. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. James Woodard, Dr. John Stanback and the Deacons of Antioch Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Antioch Baptist Church, 6080 Highway 45 North, Columbus, MS 39705 or Trinity Healthcare, 230 Airline Road, Columbus, MS 39702.
