Jason Daniel Pigg The funeral mass and interment for Jason Daniel Pigg will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Starkville, MS. Mr. Pigg, age 52, died at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus on Thursday, December 20, 2012. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 21 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father John Bohn will officiate. Mr. Pigg is survived by his wife of 24 years, Robin Clark Pigg; son, Davis Clark Pigg; and daughter, Janiece Marie Pigg, all of Starkville; brother, Judson Pigg of Gordonville, TX; an aunt, Tommye Hogue Rosenbaum and husband, Gene of Walnut Grove; an uncle, Dave Hogue of Walnut Grove and numerous cousins. He was the son of the late Ned and Frances Janiece Pigg. Mr. Pigg was born on May 3, 1960 in Jackson, MS, and was a graduate of Rutherford High School in Panama City, Florida, and Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from the School of Forest Resources in 1982. Since 1994 he was a self-employed forester who managed the Double Deuce Ranch in Shuqualak, MS. Formerly he was employed with Mississippi State Universitys Department of Forestry as a Forestry Research Assistant in Forest Genetics under Drs. Sam Land and Emily Schultz. He worked with the Mississippi Forestry Commission in Starkville, MS, as a Forestry Technician, and was a Procurement Forester with the Sturgis Pulpwood Company in Sturgis, MS. As an active member of the community, Mr. Pigg was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Father John P Egan Council 6765 Knights of Columbus. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving husband and wonderful father. He held memberships in the Society of American Foresters (SAF), Starkville Academy Athletic Booster Club, Starkville Academy Patrons Association (SAPA), season ticket holder to MSU Baseball, MSU Oktibbeha County Alumni Association, former member of the MSU Bulldog Club, Oktibbeha County Forest Farmers Association, Land O Lakes Area, Inc., and Noxubee County Forest Farmers. He was a Mississippi Registered Forester for almost thirty years and was awarded Progressive Farmer magazines Big Game Management of the year for 1996 and the Noxubee County Wildlife Management of the Year for 1995. He received a Wildfire Prevention citation in 1987, a certificate of Wildlife Forensics in 1988, and a certificate for the Timber Taxation Workshop. He was also a member of the Oktoc Community Club. Widely known for his barbequing skills, Mr. Pigg has also won numerous awards for his barbeque cooking in Pigg N Polk with his cooking partner, Bill Polk. Pallbearers include Will Clark, Nathan Crenshaw, Jeff Dawkins, Tim Johnson, Rick Nelms, Ronnie Pepper, Vernon Ricks, Michael Sanders, Tom Tramel and Bobby Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Father John P Egan Council 6765 Knights of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jason Pigg Memorial Education Fund at Regions Bank, Attn: Sammy Slaughter, P O Drawer 1127, Starkville, MS 39760.
