BILL LEMONDS William Wheeler "Bill" Lemonds Sr. age 74 died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at his residence in Columbus. Services will be held Friday, April 2, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with his grandson Bro. Jay Lemonds officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home Thursday, April 01, 2010 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Mr. Lemonds was born on Wednesday, May 1, 1935 in Toccopola, MS to the late Rex and Aline Burks Lemonds. He grew up near Corinth, MS, in a community known as Wheeler Grove . As a boy he developed a love for sports and radio. Around 1963 he began a career in radio with Buddy Bane at WCMA in Corinth. In 1973 he moved to Columbus and began working at WJWF. and WMBC as manager. In 1979, he began managing WAJV gospel radio and W.JWP. He was well known for broadcasting the Gospel Ship program each morning from 6 until 9:00am. It was through this program that he touched many lives. He was also responsible for sports casting of high school and college games, which he dearly loved. He was pastor at New Bethel Baptist Church in Noxubee County for approximately 28 years. Over the years he housed and mentored many who struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. He was a proud and active member of the community of New Hope. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart, soul, and mind. He was honorable and did not mind standing up for what was right. He was a member of McBee Baptist Church and will be loved and remembered by all who knew him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-son Terry Wilbanks. Survivors include: Wife-Gracie M. Lemonds Columbus MS Three Sons: Larry Lemonds, Orlando, FL James David "Bo" Lemonds (Cathy), Orlando, FL William W. "Chip" Lemonds, Jr. (Amy), Columbus, MS One Sister: Ula Mann, Columbus, MS Four Grandchildren: Valarie Lemonds Jay Lemonds Mary Katelyn Lemonds Allison Elizabeth Lemonds 3 great grandchildren: Caris, Braden, and Lucy . The Pallbearers will be: Thomas Nelms, Bill Holly, David Nelms, Joe Owens, Chris Sanders, and Robert Brewer Memorials may be made to the Palmer Home for Children P. O. Box 746 MS 39703
