Walter David Cooper

Walter David Cooper, age 89, of Columbus, Miss., died Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus, Miss. Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 25, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Beersheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with Rev. Mickey Dalrymple, Rev. Ron McDougald and Rev. Tommy Gillon officiating. Mr. Cooper was the son of the late Frank Rodgers Cooper, Sr. and Mattie Edwards Cooper, born April 16, 1919 in Lowndes County, Ms. He graduated from the Alabama School for the Blind in Talladega, Al and retired from Ms Industries for the Blind in Jackson. He was an accomplished pianist, who learned to play the piano by listening to the notes on the keyboard, and he was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Gertrude Breazelle Cooper, half-brothers Frank, Lewis, William, and James Cooper, and half-sisters Irene Miller and Ethel Friday. He is survived by his niece Ruth Greene, of Columbus and numerous great nieces and great nephews. Memorials may be made to the Alabama School for the Blind, 705 South St. East, Talladega, Al, 35160 or Ms Industries for the Blind, 2501 N. West St., Jackson, Ms 39216.
