COLUMBUS-- Oakley S. Lollar, 85, died November 13, 2010, at his home. Mr. Lollar was born February 21, 1925, the youngest of seven children to the late John Walter Lollar and Jennie Mae Vaughn Lollar, in Steens, Mississippi. He served in the Army and retired from thr MS Army National Guard as a Command Sergeant Major. He was a recipient of the Order of St. Barbara award for artillery, the Enlisted Association of the Army National Guard of the United States (EANGUS) Minuteman award, and numerous other awards during his 43 years of service to our country. CSM Lollar was a founding member of the Mississippi National Guard NCO Association, where he was known for his work in initiating and maintaining their college scholarship program. In 2010, a new scholarship was created in his honor called the Oakley S. Lollar scholarship. He retired from the post office and was a member of Main Street Presbyterian Church. While his sons were Boy Scouts, he was an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 3. He was an active member of the Huddle House Coffee Appreciation Society (HHCAS). He is survived by his wife, Sarah Ussery, and their three children, Dianne Lollar Confalone, Stewart Lollar, and Terry Lollar. Services are Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Strain officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Friendship Cemetery.
