Ruth W. Carter Ruth Boswell Watson Carter, age 92, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus. Services will be held Friday, September 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Carter was born August 1, 1920 in Louisville, MS to the late George Patty and Edna Boswell Watson, Sr. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbus, where she taught a 14 year-old girls Sunday School class for several years. She was also active in the WMU and the church choir. Mrs. Carter was a graduate of Louisville High School. She met Haskell Triplett Carter while working at the Winston County Courthouse. Shortly after they were married, Mr. Carter was activated to serve in WWII during which time their son Dudley was born. After the war, they moved to Columbus where Mr. Carter set up his law practice. Following Mr. Carters death in 1971, Mrs. Carter worked in Admissions at the Columbus Hospital. Over the years she was a member of the DAR where she served as chaplain, the Cherokee Garden Club, the Columbus Music Study Club and the So and Sew Club. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Dudley Haskell Carter; her sisters, Frances Watson Webb, Patricia Edwina (Jimmie) Hudson and George Patty (Pat) Watson, Jr. Survivors include one daughter, Marcia Carter Walker (Roger), Madison, MS; two grandchildren, Lisa Alexandria Carter, Seattle, WA; Aubrey Glyn Walker, Baton Rouge, LA. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Patty Hudson Younger, Ridgeland, MS; Mike Hudson, Tuscaloosa, AL; George Patty Watson III, Louisville, MS; June Woodruff, Coral Springs, FL; Sandra Webb Reed, Glenrose, TX; Walter Webb, Holly Springs, MS; Ted Carter, Louisville, MS; Dale Carter Beyer, Louisville, MS; Ann Carter Stirling, Aliceville, AL; Billie Lynn Arthur, Clinton, MS; Mary Jean Reddick, Avon Park, FL and Ouida Hemphill Gambrell, Maggie Valley, NC. Pallbearers include: Roger Glyn Walker, Mike Hudson, Jim Davidson, Steve McEwen, Bunk Harpole and Bobby Sanderson. Honorary Pallbearers included: Dr. Michael Duckworth, Jim Ford, George Patty Watson III, Tom Porter, Mac McCarty. Walter Webb and Bill Arthur. The family would like to extend special thanks to her caregiver, Lynn Silas, and to her dear friend, Sarah Sanders, who lovingly cared for her during her residencies at Homeplace and Trinity Personal Care.
