Thomas Atwell "Son" Egger, Jr., age 90, of Columbus, MS, passed away December 28, 2012, at Trinity Personal Care. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at 1:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Anne Russell Bradley officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 2, 2013, from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Egger was born October 13, 1922, in Columbus, MS, to the late Thomas Atwell and Willie Jernigan Egger, Sr. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Columbus and served in the U. S. Air Force as a Technical Sergeant during WWII. He was a 1941 graduate of S. D. Lee High School and a 1948 graduate of Mississippi State University with a B. S. in accounting. He was involved in the automotive business most of his life, working with his father and his uncle at Dowdle and Egger Motor Service and later Egger Motor Sales. He was a past member of the Columbus Exchange Club and was a Boy Scout Leader. He started a career with Tenneco Automotive in 1961 at Walker Manufacturing in Aberdeen, MS, in the accounting department, and by 1966 had worked his way up to plant manager. In 1973 he became the plant manager in Arden, NC. In 1978 he became the plant manager of Tenneco's Monroe Auto Equipment Company in Paragould, AR. He retired in 1980 and returned to Columbus in 1984. After retirement he continued to enjoy hunting, fishing, making knifes, and began traveling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Bernice "Bitsie" King Egger. Survivors include his daughter, Ann Egger Wallace and her husband Rusty of Bartlett, TN, and grandchildren, Harris F. Wallace, IV of Cordova, TN, and Amanda P. Wallace of Cordova, TN. Pallbearers will be Charles Culpepper, Billy Shull, Tom Younger, Bob Hunter, James Stockton, Howard Sharp, Louis Sharp, and Harris F. Wallace, IV. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 32, Columbus, MS, 39703, or to the donor's favorite charity.
