Lathel Coleman Shelton, 93, of Columbus, MS died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Trinity Healthcare in Columbus, MS Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM. Services will be Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 2:00 PM in the Artz Fellowship Hall, Fletcher-Jones Bldg., First United Methodist Church with Dr. Sam Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The daughter of the late Abner and Alice Davis Coleman, Mrs. Shelton was born Tuesday, June 8, 1915 in Tula, Ms.She was a 1932 graduate of Yocona High School in Lafayette County where she was a star basketball player. She was employed at Seminole Manufacturing for several years, and later with the late Mrs. Sue Lavender purchased the cafe across the street from Seminole and operated it for a number of years. She also owned and operated the Big R Drive-Inn in East Columbus. Mrs. Shelton found time to serve as a Pink Lady at Golden Triangle Regional Medical Center and was recognized for her dedication as a volunteer. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband William Young Shelton, 4 siblings and a grandson Jeffrey Wayne Shelton. She is survived by her sons William Jerry "Sonny" Shelton and David Shelton (Sue) both of Columbus, Miss., daughter Sarah Ann "Sally" Shelton Shook (Claude E., Jr). of Roswell, Ga., brothers Billy G. Coleman of Kansas City, Mo. and Bobby Coleman (Maxine) of Cabot, Ark.and a sister Wilise Coleman Foster of Tula, Miss. She is also survived by six grandchildren William Jerry Shelton, Jr., Susan Rebecca Foster, Stephanie Shook Poulson, Claude E. Shook, III, William D. Shook and Justin Shelton, eleven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Shelton, Bill Brigham, Dwayne Burns, Kenneth Burns, Clyde McElrath, Darryl McElrath, Reed Cooper and Joe Stewart.
