Frank Howard Faris

Frank Howard Faris departed this life on February 15, 2008. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 17, at 1:30 p.m. followed by services at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Faris was born on October 10, 1908, to the late Murdock Odell Faris and Leila Howard Faris in Grapeland, Texas. At an early age, he and his family moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he graduated from Lake Charles High School. After graduation, he attended the University of Washington in Seattle. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, the Glee Club, the U.W. Quartet, and the R.O.T.C. Band. He was employed by Long Bell Lumber Company in Longview, Washington, for one year and then moved to Columbus in November 1929 where he was employed with the local J.C. Penney Company. Mr. Faris retired from the J.C. Penney Company after forty years having managed stores in Georgia, North Carolina, and Mississippi. After his retirement, he moved back to Columbus in December 1972. Mr. Faris was a Rotarian for 35 years having served as president in Aberdeen and McComb, Mississippi. He was a member of the First Baptist Church having been ordained a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Oxford, North Carolina. He has been a member of Dr. Platts Sunday School Class since 1972. Survivors include a loving, devoted wife of 72 years, Margaret Ward Faris, of Columbus, a loving son, Frank Howard Faris, Jr., and a loving daughter-in-law, Lee Bullard Faris, of Tucson, Arizona. Pallbearers are William E. Roberts, III, Rufus Ward, III, Mark Clay, Raymond Gross, Frank Loftis, Mike Perkerson, Bobby Sanford, Sonny Shelton, and Noel Sumrall. Honorary pallbearers are the members of Dr. Platts Sunday School Class and James Blunt. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
