Marion Long, age 87, of Columbus, MS died Monday, October 31, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Healthcare with his two sons at his side. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home in Columbus and Gallant Riverview Funeral Home in Fayetteville, TN. Services will be Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home, with Joel Ellis officiating. Visitation will begin two hours prior to the service. Graveside services will be Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fayetteville, where Mr. Long will be buried next to his wife, Mary Lucille Tucker Long. The son of the late James Eron and Ruby Fullerton Long, Mr. Long was born August 7, 1924 in Fayetteville, TN., the fifth of nine children, which included seven boys and two girls. A resident of Columbus for over 50 years, he was one of the very first employees of General Tire and Rubber Co. in Columbus, eventually retiring with over 20 years of service to the company. After he retired, he enjoyed working on his tractor, helping his sons and tending to his livestock and his dog Dixie Belle. He was a member of the East Columbus Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lucille Tucker Long, a step- son Hershel Jones, Jr., six brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his sons Phillip R. Long (Carolyn) of Columbus and Dennis R. Long of Gulfshores, AL, his granddaughter Kristen N. Callander (Doug) and his great granddaughter Ava Caroline Callander, all of Atlantic Beach, FL. Pallbearers will be Jay McCrary, Clyde Hollis, Waymon Tilley, Wade Woods, Bobby Ray, Wade McCrary and James Ratliff. Memorials may be made to the East Columbus Church of Christ, P.O.
