STANLEY BATES Thomas Stanley Bates, age 74, of Columbus, MS, passed away July 12, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 14, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Corder officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery near Millport, AL. Visitation will be Friday, July 13, 2012, from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Bates was born June 15, 1938, in Millport, AL, to the late Thomas and Perlie Smith Bates. He served in the United States Army for two years stationed in Germany. Mr. Bates worked for 17 years at Johnston Tombigbee before becoming owner and operator of Bates Tire Center in March of 1975. He was a member of Springhill Baptist Church and additional memberships included the Twelve Man Supper Club, Caledonia Supper Club, Chitlin Club, and Lake Norris Fishing Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Estes Bates, and son, William Allen Bates. Suvivors include his sons, Stan Bates and his wife Emily of Columbus, MS, Adam Bates and his wife Robin of Caledonia, MS, and grandchildren, Beau Bates, John Thomas Bates, Cooper Bates, Blake Bates, all of Caledonia, MS, and Ryan Bates of Columbus, MS. Pallbearers will be James Frye, Doug Moulds, Glenn Miller, Glenn Hardin, Billy Johnson, and Jake Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Twelve Man Supper Club, Caledonia Supper Club, Chitlin Club, and employees of Bates Tire Center.
