Mrs. Frances Irene Land, age 88, died Thursday, July 07, 2011 at Aurora Health and Rehabilitation in Columbus. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, July 8, 2011 at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Graveside Services will be Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Friendship Cemetery with Pastor Floyd Smithey, officiating. The daughter of the late August Herman Franke and Selma Louise Huselid Homme, Mrs. Land was born June 6, 1923 in Minneapolis, MN. She was a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and was very active in the Lutheran Braille Workers. A graduate of Mississippi University for Women, she worked in the Columbus City Schools as an Art teacher at S.D. Lee High and Caldwell Jr. High Schools. She also worked part time as an Art instructor at MUW, as well as giving private art lessons. She was also one of the founding members of the Columbus Art Association. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Richard Lee Land, who died in 1993, and a brother and sister Frank Homme and Betty Homme. She is survived by her children Richard Lee land, Jr, (Carla) of Batesville, AR, Karen Land Boyd (Lindley) and Gregory H. Land, all of Columbus, seven grandchildren Lindley Boyd, Jr., Trooper Boyd, Richard Land, Frank Land, Christopher Land , Patrick Land and Kirstin Ford and nine great grandchildren. Her grandsons Lindley Boyd, Jr., Trooper Boyd, Richard Land, Frank Land, Christopher Land and Patrick Land will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Lands name to Lutheran Braille Workers, P. O. Box 5000, Yucaipa, CA 92399.
